Telehealth

Terms of reference

In 1998, the document “Health for All Policy for the XXI Century”, commissioned by the World Health Organization, and recommending the appropriate use of health telematics policy and general strategy for health for all.

Telehealth (including telemedicine) is the provision of health services using information technology and communication, especially where distance is a barrier to receiving health care.

The second global survey on eHealth conducted by the World Health Organization and published in 2010, provides information of interest on eleven Member States of the Americas who answered the survey: on the political framework, 82% of the surveyed countries have said of e-government policy, while 45% also has a strategy on eHealth. 36% even has a specific policy on telemedicine.

This stream will reveal the experience of the Region of the Americas in addition to connecting telehealth projects and initiatives throughout the Americas.
